Driveway cleaning in Hope Mills

Concrete under town canopy grows a slick green film that a driveway in an open subdivision never gets. It is also a slip hazard long before it looks like one.

Free estimates. Family owned, minority owned and locally owned since 2017.

Shade is what makes concrete green

A slab in full sun dries after rain and stays fairly clean for years. A slab under the older tree cover in Hope Mills never fully dries, and that permanent damp is all algae needs. The result is the darkening that creeps in from the edges and the tyre tracks that stay pale in the middle because that is the only part that gets driven dry.

Long before it looks obviously dirty, that film is slick when wet. The walkway from the drive to the front door is where that actually matters, and it is the piece most people forget to include.

Concrete is the one surface that takes real pressure

Unlike siding or a roof, concrete can take it, which is why this is a genuinely different job from a house wash. The trap is uneven cleaning. A wand waved freehand at a slab leaves stripes: overlapping arcs, lighter where it dwelt and darker where it moved, and once you have striped a driveway the only fix is doing the whole thing again properly.

The work is done with a surface cleaner, which holds a fixed distance and an even sweep, so the slab comes up one consistent colour rather than a record of where the operator stood.

What is included

  • The driveway, edge to edge, including the apron out to the street
  • The front walkway and any path round the side, which is where the slip risk sits
  • Patios and pool decks where they are part of the same visit
  • Edges and expansion joints, where the growth holds on longest

What will and will not come off

Algae, general soiling and most leaf staining lift completely. Oil that has soaked into porous concrete may lighten rather than vanish, and deep rust or paint may not fully clear. You will be told which of those you are looking at before the work starts rather than after.

Most people put this on the same visit as the house wash, because the setup and the water are already there. The town itself is on the Hope Mills page, and the method detail is on the driveway and concrete page.

Questions people actually ask

Why is my driveway green when my neighbour's is not?

Almost always shade. A slab that never gets a few hours of direct sun stays damp, and damp is what algae needs. An open driveway two doors down can look fine for years.

Will pressure washing damage the concrete?

Not on sound concrete cleaned properly. Damage comes from holding a narrow jet in one place, which etches. A surface cleaner keeps the distance and the sweep even.

Can you get oil stains out?

Sometimes they lift fully, sometimes they only lighten, depending how long it soaked and how porous the slab is. You will get an honest read before the work rather than after.

Do you clean the walkway too?

Yes, and it is worth doing. The path to the front door is the piece that actually gets walked on wet, so it is the slip risk more than the driveway is.
